Trust Fall is the newest contemporary romance novel by New York Times bestselling author Lynn Painter. Billed as a “rags-to-riches rom-com,” a small-town family in Nebraska inherits millions from their best customer. The catch? They have to move to NYC, live in his posh brownstone, and the teen twins have to attend the elite private school for six months. Given that the posh brownstone was verbally promised to the dead man’s nephew, it’s unsurprising when his rich family feels they’ve been robbed and plot to sue the new residents. That makes the teen girl, Julia, squarely on the bad side of the nephew, Damian. So of course their chemistry is explosive.

Yeah, the setup is unrealistic, and this plot trajectory made it difficult for me to get into the book. I’m not sure I would have continued reading if it had been any other author. Once I accepted the unrealistic plot and got to know the characters, I was hooked. Painter knows how to grab readers by the heart and squeeze… she always makes me cry in the very best way. Her characters are always fully realized, complex and endearing.

So while this wasn’t my favorite book by Painter, Trust Fall is still a solid romance. I have already preordered the audiobook and look forward to rereading it. As an added bonus, the author included her Spotify playlist for the book.
