“We have art in order not to die of the truth.” Friedrich Nietzsche
This is a stressful time, and we all have our own way of coping. In this time of fear, of anxiety, of confinement, we still have ART. We can tour the catacombs of Paris; watch an opera or play; tour a museum; watch animals live at the zoo; see famous people reading books or singing or playing music; watch movies and television shows; read books, newspapers, and magazines; listen to music, audiobooks, and podcasts; all from the safety of our homes! And if we have the inclination, we can produce or reproduce our own art. We can write, draw, paint, sing, play an instrument, or find other ways to express ourselves and share our stories and our passions with the world.
“Without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable.” George Bernard Shaw
And if your creativity is stifled by the reality around you, know that it is okay. As someone who lets reality overwhelm her 11/12ths of the year, I understand. Just promise yourself that when you do feel free to create again, when the world no longer smothers yours soul, that you will cherish that time and let your art free.
“Reality is a blanket that can comfort one soul while smothering another.” Jennifer Dawson
